STRADIVARI CELLO - ‘STAUFFER’
Though best known for violin making, Stradivari also made other stringed instruments. His ‘Stauffer’ cello, built in 1700, is listed as an Italian national treasure. Completing the quartet with luscious deep tones, it adds weight to the overall sound of the ensemble.
The sounds of CREMONA QUARTET were captured using a bespoke array of microphones and preamps, placed in a specially designed acoustic environment. Even the local people of Cremona played their part, with all traffic near the auditorium stopped for the duration of the recordings, to ensure that no external noise could interrupt the process.
Although best known for his violin making, Antonio Stradivari also made other stringed instru-ments. STRADIVARI CELLO features Stauffer, a cello built by Stradivari in 1700. Listed as an Ital-ian national treasure, the cello famous for its luscious deep tones add weight to the sound of thestring quartet.
Until now, only a select few have been granted the right to play this precious instru-ment. The cello itself is guarded by armed security, as it sits on display in the Museo del Violino inthe birthplace of Antonio Stradivari—Cremona, Italy.During the meticulous recording process for this virtual instrument, the streets of Cremona groundto a halt as the council closed roads, car parks and urged the people of the town to remain as qui-et as possible.
Meanwhile, inside the Auditorium Giovanni Arvedi, designed by pioneer acousticianYasuhisa Toyota, Hamburg’s e-instruments captured every single note of the cello using 32 care-fully selected microphones placed throughout the hall to provide this digital recreation of a historicmasterpiece.
The instrument provides 20 different, professionally played articulations, each with up to four lega-to transitions. In addition, the innovative, Performance-Captured Vibrato models the natural vibratotechnique of a professional player and the Stereo Phase-Aligned Dynamic Crossfades eliminatephasing between dynamic transitions.
These features combine to make STRADIVARI CELLO oneof the most realistic, true-sounding solo cello recreations. This document provides informationabout the library and a description of all of its functions.
